John 19:33-37 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.” Commemorate the sacrifice of the One pierced for you. Colossians 1:15-20 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
This Sunday, as we enter Holy Week, we hope you'll join us for a wonderful service of worship! Our Children's Chorus will sing in the service, and there will be a special message for children. Then Pastor Michael Best will continue our Colossians series with a message titled "The Greatest of All Time" from Colossians 1:15–20. Join us at 10:00am CDT, whether you're here in Chicago or worship with us online! www.moodychurch.org/live-stream
Last Sunday evening, Pastor Michael Best preached from Mark 12 on Christ teaching in the temple. If you've ever had to respond to loaded questions, you'll appreciate Jesus' skill in responding as he teaches us three important lessons about our relationship with God.
Pastor R.A. Torrey: In much of our prayer there is very little thought of God. Our mind is taken up with the thought of what we need, and is not occupied with the thought of the mighty and loving Father of whom we are seeking it.
Most religions represent man reaching up to God. On Easter Sunday, we'll celebrate a God who reaches down to us. Join us April 21 as we explore how Easter changes everything. www.moodychurch.org/easter/
John Calvin: To know God as the Master and Bestower of all good things, who invites us to request them of Him, and still not go to Him and ask of Him – this would be of as little profit as for a man to neglect a treasure, buried and hidden in the earth, after it had been pointed out to him. Do not neglect this blessed treasure! Join your brothers and sisters tonight at 6:45pm for our Wednesday prayer meeting. Through time in the Word, in song, and in prayer, we will fellowship, grow together in unity, and enter into the throne room of grace.
D.L. Moody: God is my Father, and I am His child. He has a father's heart, and I can count on the tender affections of that heart in the midst of all my feebleness and need. He loves me, not because of what I am enabled to do, but because I am His child.
1 John 3:1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
Refuel This Easter! We’ve all felt that way at some point. What if there was something that could refuel you forever? Join us April 21 to discover how Easter changes everything. www.moodychurch.org/easter
Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Mark 12:24-31 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong.” And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Galatians 2:20a I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. Today - and every day! - we celebrate the joy of lives changed by Jesus Christ. We invite to you to join us this morning as together we worship the God who gave us new life through His Son. If you'd like to participate in the full service, head over to our website; we will also stream the sermon here on Facebook. No matter where you are, we hope you'll worship with us! www.moodychurch.org/live-stream
